This NAB Show Retreat Is Focused On Your Competition

If you’re planning on attending the 2017 NAB Show in Las Vegas in late April and have a keen interest in discussing “the latest trends disrupting the traditional video and audio marketplace putting more than $300 billion in advertising up for grabs,” you better make plans to spend some time at the Encore Hotel on April 24-25.

That’s when the bulk of activities at the inaugural Ad Innovation Lab and Executive Retreat will be held.

The retreat is the first collaboration and co-production involving the NAB and GABBCON, the Global Audience Based Buying Conference & Consultancy.

With invitation-only outings to a golf course, followed by a shooting range, on tap for midday Monday, the event officially opens with a 4pm keynote address from Zenith Media Head of Innovation Tom Goodwin on how “technology presents new efficiencies, opportunities and solutions amid complexity, uncertainty, and challenge.”

Immediately after, GABBCON opens the doors to its first-ever Ad Innovation Lab where attendees can check out and meet the key people behind the industry’s most successful efforts spanning audience-based advertising, big data and artificial intelligence, drones and creative production, virtual reality and augmented reality, as well as over-the-top, direct-to-consumer content streaming.

At 9am on April 25, BIA/Kelsey research on audience buying and TV will be shared in a 15-minute session. Then, a 30-minute discussion on how “Generation Z” is approaching TV viewership and OTT platforms different will be held.

At 9:45am, IBM Chief Data Officer Inderpal Bhandari, “a sought-after but often elusive thought-leader,” will deliver a keynote address.

Y&R Global CEO David Sable bookends the mid-morning session with a 1:15 p.m. keynote in which the advertising chief will discuss the inherent complexities involved in bringing together people of diverse business backgrounds and strategic objectives to harness their intellectual firepower and talents toward a common creative goal.

One panel currently being finalized for the April 25 sessions is devoted to the new OpenAP initiative that initial collaborators Fox Networks Group, Turner Networks and Viacom Inc. unveiled in an open letter to the industry on March 15.

There area also sessions devoted to radio: “What’s that box with sound coming out of it do?” It is led by Gayle Troberman, EVP/CMO at iHeartMedia.

Troberman’s 3pm presentation is followed by a 3:30pm session featuring leaders from the terrestrial and digital radio business set to face off on where radio or audio is headed.
