GABBCON, the Global Audience Based Buying Conference & Consultancy, and the NAB Show, produced by the National Association of Broadcasters, today unveiled their inaugural programming lineup for the first-ever Ad Innovation Lab and Executive Retreat to be held at the Encore Hotel on April 24 and 25 during the 2017 NAB Show scheduled for April 22-27, 2017 in Las Vegas.
This newly formed day-and-a-half long conference represents the first collaboration between GABBCON and the NAB to gather the international media world’s top marketers, agencies, media content publishers and the ad-tech community to provide hands-on experience with technological innovations and discuss the latest trends disrupting the traditional video and audio marketplace putting more than $300 billion in advertising up for grabs.
Zenith Media’s Head of Innovation Tom Goodwin, a frequent contributor to leading publications ranging from Forbes, TechCrunch and Wired to The Guardian, Advertising Age and AdWeek, will open the new conference’s April 24 afternoon sessions at 4 p.m. local time with a keynote address about how technology presents new efficiencies, opportunities and solutions amid complexity, uncertainty, and challenge. Immediately after, GABBCON opens the doors to its first-ever Ad Innovation Lab where attendees can check out and meet the key people behind the industry’s most successful efforts spanning audience-based advertising, big data and artificial intelligence, drones and creative production, virtual reality and augmented reality, as well as over-the-top, direct-to-consumer content streaming.
IBM Chief Data Officer Inderpal Bhandari, a sought-after but often elusive thought-leader, will deliver the 9:45 a.m. keynote to anchor the second day of the conference, which features a wide array of interactive discussions and panels of diverse industry leaders, held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Encore Hotel Ballrooms. (Find the complete panel and speaker line-up here). Bhandari, who is responsible for global titan IBM’s entire worldwide data strategy, boasts unique experience in transforming data and analytics into improved customer experiences amid markets as dissimilar as medical care and professional sports. News organizations ranging from Fox News to CNN, the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, US News & World Report and others, have each sought his unique industry expertise as a contributor.
Y&R Global CEO David Sable bookends the mid-morning session with a 1:15 p.m. keynote: “Media is from Mars, Creative is from Venus,” where, among other topics, the entrepreneurial advertising chief will discuss the inherent complexities involved in bringing together people of diverse business backgrounds and strategic objectives to harness their intellectual firepower and talents toward a common creative goal. The current Vice Chair of the Advertising Council and, for many years, Director at Large of the 4As, Sable boasts unique insight and gravitas spanning both the business and creative aspects of the advertising world, having served as Jury President at Cannes three times, while also leading several of the world’s most recognized agencies and accounts before assuming the helm of Y&R in spring 2011.
The full agenda for the annual the NAB Show Ad Innovation Lab Powered By GABBCON is available at the GABBCON website, where interested executives can also register, or learn more about GABBCON’s next upcoming event, scheduled for May 17 in Chicago, as well as the next collaboration with NAB when the two host an executive cruise (and exclusive party) aboard the Princess AVK yacht during the Cannes Lions conference in the South of France from June 17-24.
One panel currently being finalized for the April 25 sessions is devoted to the new OpenAP initiative that initial collaborators Fox Networks Group, Turner Networks and Viacom Inc. unveiled in an open letter to the industry on March 15. OpenAP, which the three companies describe as “TV’s Advanced Audience Platform,” represents one of the media industry’s first major attempts to enlist the most popular content publishers to rally behind common standards for how they use data to target audiences and verify measurement and delivery through a neutral, third party auditor.
“While demand for audience targeting has grown significantly, adoption has been limited by the fact that audience buying is not as transparent, as consistent and as easy as traditional guarantees. It doesn’t need to be that complicated,” the three said in their initial announcement.
Gabriel Greenberg, CEO and Co-Founder of GABBCON, says the OpenAP initiative represents positive change for the market. “One of the reasons we started GABBCON in 2015 was to advance audience based buying for TV and radio so it is wonderful to see others follow suit. It means we skated to where the puck was headed. We are confident that our new venture with NAB represents another change that is coming – NAB Show will become the gathering place for buyers and sellers of audio and video advertising.
“Our primary objective is to always try to move this complex, intertwining marketplace forward,” Greenberg adds. “We are fortunate to have brought together some incredible minds and organizations for this event and can offer attendees a very immersive experience in a short period of time. They can then bring back some new insights, information and relationships into their own businesses and help ease the fears and open up the opportunities these technological innovations truly represent.”
